Who we are

GUTR is a personalised gut training and race-day fuelling tool for endurance runners, operated by Ed Cole. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at ed@gutr.run.

What data we collect

When you use GUTR, we may collect:

  • Identity data: First name and email address, provided when you generate a plan.
  • Body data: Gender, age, weight, height, and sweat rate — used solely to calculate your personalised hydration and fuelling targets.
  • Training data: Your race details, gel preferences, weekly training load, and gut sensitivity rating.
  • Check-in data: Your weekly long run ratings, GI issue reports, energy logs, and free-text notes — used to generate personalised coaching feedback.
  • Device data: Your browser's push notification subscription (if enabled), IANA timezone, and an anonymous ID stored in your browser's local storage.
  • Usage data: We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics. Your plan and UUID are stored in your browser's local storage, not cookies.

Why we collect it

  • To generate your personalised gut training plan and race-day fuelling strategy.
  • To provide weekly coaching feedback after your long run check-ins.
  • To send you a weekly check-in reminder on your long run day (if you opt in).
  • To allow you to recover your plan if you lose access to this device.

Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

We process your data on the basis of legitimate interests (to provide the service you requested) and consent (for email and push notifications, which you explicitly opt into). You can withdraw consent at any time.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your data. We share it only with the following processors:

  • Anthropic (Claude API): Your check-in answers, training context, and free-text notes are sent to Anthropic's API to generate coaching feedback. Anthropic processes this as a data processor under their API terms. See anthropic.com/privacy.
  • Upstash (Redis): Your user record (name, email, plan summary, check-in history) is stored in Upstash's managed Redis service, hosted in the EU (Ireland). See upstash.com.
  • Resend: Your email address and first name are shared with Resend to deliver weekly check-in reminder emails. See resend.com.

How long we keep your data

We retain your data for as long as it is needed to provide the service — typically for the duration of your training block and a reasonable period afterwards. We periodically review and remove records that are no longer active. You can request deletion of your data at any time by emailing ed@gutr.run and we will action it within 30 days.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your data.
  • Restriction — ask us to pause processing while a dispute is resolved.
  • Portability — ask for your data in a machine-readable format.

To exercise any of these rights, email ed@gutr.run. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the ICO (UK supervisory authority).

Cookies and local storage

GUTR does not use tracking cookies. We store your anonymous plan ID and plan data in your browser's local storage — this is local to your device and is not sent to any third party except as described above. You can clear this at any time through your browser settings.

Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Your data is stored in Upstash Redis with access restricted by API token. We do not store payment information (GUTR does not currently charge for access).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Continued use of GUTR after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
